It’s a fun summer tradition that shows off Mount Dora’s small town charm. This year the city’s Independence Day Parade and its Freedom on the Waterfront celebration have been cancelled due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19. The City’s annual tradition is to kick off the festivities with Freedom on the Waterfront on July 3 with fireworks on Lake Dora followed by a hometown parade on July 4.
The Mount Dora City Council discussed the fireworks event at their Tuesday, May 19, regular meeting and agreed to cancel the event due to concerns of potentially large crowds gathering in Mount Dora to view the fireworks and the parade. The large crowds could create challenges to provide adequate social distancing for attendees.
Mayor Cathy Hoechst said the council will be considering a fireworks display later in the summer.
