To most people, June 11 is just like any other day. But on this day, the Lake County Animal Shelter is celebrating the anniversary of the first no-kill community shelter.
The public can participate in “Just One Day”, a free pet adoption event, at the shelter located at 28123 County Road 561 in Tavares this Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. . The goal is to clear the shelter of adoptable animals into good homes. Puppies, kittens, cats and dogs will put their best paw forward to encourage residents to open their hearts and homes. All adoptions will be free, sponsored by L.E.A.S.H., Inc. 'No Kill Learning' is also teaming up with the event.
The shelter’s extra hours this Sunday are for adoptions only. To pick up county tags, or to inquire about surrendering an animal, visit or call during normal business hours.
Lake County's mission is to have all savable animals adopted or rescued. The public can help by fostering, adopting or sharing the adoptable pets on social media.
