Tavares monthly event features cars, vendors and more
Wooton Park is the setting of a free monthly, family-friendly event. Tavares Lakefront Cars, Food Trucks, Market & Talent Show provides a chance to browse local vendors, grab a bite from food trucks, admire classic cars on display, and enjoy live music with scenic views of Lake Dora. The event is free and held on the third Friday of every month from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

First monkeys, now dinosaur sighting
Take the kids to step back in time at the free prehistoric exhibit on display now through August 31 in the lobby of W.T. Bland Library in Mount Dora. The highlight is an impressive 20-foot-long replica of a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton. See photos

New antique and vintage shop opens in Mount Dora
Uptown Mount Dora just added to its vintage vibe. Flipping Good Finds opened last month and has brought vintage treasures, antiques, and unique items to the historic former home it now occupies at 121 N. Highland Street.

A consignment shop finally opens in downtown
Refind, a new consignment and thrift boutique offering apparel for women, men, and kids, opened last month on the second floor of 440 N. Donnelly Street in downtown Mount Dora. The small boutique gives shoppers a chance to find quality secondhand pieces.

Pet supply store closes in Mount Dora
As part of a series of the company's store closures, PetSense on U.S. 441 next to Fitness C.F. in Mount Dora will soon be shutting its doors permanently. That still leaves Piglet's Pantry, Hobscott Corner, and Pet Supermarket to fill the void for Fido.

Breakfast options expand in downtown Mount Dora
One of downtown's favorite lunch spots just launched limited Sunday breakfast options that aren't run-of-the-mill. The new trio of chef-inspired options at the Butcher's Nook include the Jersey Debate, the Glory Box, and a rotating special. Breakfasts are available from 10-4 p.m.

Healthy vibes added to historic district
A perfect collaboration of fitness and fresh food opened in Mount Dora. Daybreak Yoga Collective and Roots Cafe opened last month in the former Segway location on Alexander Street. The food, yoga, and renovation are impressive. Read more

Popular bakery opening date still not set
Anxious cookie lovers have long anticipated the opening of Crumbl cookie bakery in Mount Dora, but alas, they will have to wait a bit longer. A representative for the company said they still don't have a confirmed opening date for the U.S. Highway 441 in Mount Dora. Stay tuned to Mount Dora Buzz Facebook page for updates.

Florida primary elections take place on August 18


Voters will decide local and statewide primary races on August 18, so registered voters should confirm their polling places in case a change was made since the last time they voted. There is still time to register for the general election in November.


The Lake County Commission race for District 4 pits incumbent Leslie Campione against political outsider David Williamson. Both conservative Republicans, Campione is running on her 16-year record as a county commissioner, and challenger Williamson is running on a controlled-growth and rural environmental platform. You can view their campaign finance reports here to review donations that may provide reassurance or concern depending on your priorities.
