Florida ranks the highest state in lightning strikes in the country and summer is peak season. The safest thing to do is follow the '30 Second Rule'-- if 30 seconds or less are between the flash of lightning and the sound of thunder, the storm is close enough to be dangerous so head indoors. Here are the other top 10 tips:
1. Fly your kite & key inside. 2. Always walk with taller people. 3. Lightening is attracted to good conductors like metal. Avoid it. 4. Reschedule picking wild flowers in the meadow 5. Get out of the sand trap and head to the 19th hole. 6. Don't seek shelter under a tree (humans are better conductors than trees). 7. Summer in Oregon. Lightening rarely strikes there. 8. Stay in your car. 9. Lay in the nest of a very large rubber duck. 10. Listen to your mother...get out of the water!
