Central Florida, including Lake County, is now under a Hurricane Warning.    As residents heed the warning, provisions including bottled water, bread and D batteries were already scarce or sold out in local groceries stores before noon today.

“Lake County personnel and first responders are actively preparing for the serious threat that Hurricane Matthew could pose to Lake County,“ said Lake County Chairman Sean Parks. “Now is the time for residents to finalize their emergency plans, which include not only having a family communication plan, but also having enough supplies, such as food, water, and medication, for the entire family for up to three days.”

Residents should also get cash sufficient cash as ATM
and credit card machines are inoperable during power outages.  Gasoline may be in short supply after the storm, so ensuring vehicles have a full tank of gas is prudent.

In anticipation that significant rainfall and damaging winds could impact the county later this week, officials declared a local state of emergency for Lake County.  The emergency operations team made storm preparation plans that include using many public schools as safety shelters. To accommodate that need, schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday this week.  Students will make up lost instructional time on Nov. 21 and Nov. 22.

EUSTIS LAUNCHES INNOVATIVE "mow to own" program

10/3/2016

The City of Eustis will kick off "Mow to Own", a new program aimed at reducing the number of City-owned, vacant lots by allowing acquisition of property through routine maintenance instead of a cash purchase.

The "Mow to Own" program commits applicants to maintain vacant, City-owned property for two years after which the property is conveyed to the applicant.  The properties will be visited regularly by Eustis Code Enforcement to ensure compliance. Eligible participants of the program include adjacent owner-occupants, non-profit organizations and any other interested parties.

“The City of Eustis owns numerous, vacant properties throughout the City that are available for sale or transfer and it’s our desire to see these properties developed or incorporated into neighboring yards,” said City Manager Ron Neibert. “This unique program will allow these properties to return to the tax roll and will reduce the number of properties that our Public Works Department must mow, thereby reducing some of the City’s maintenance expenses.”

Interested parties may visit the city’s website here for a list and map of the Eustis' surplus properties and the "Mow to Own" application.

“The properties that we’ve identified as "Mow to Own" eligible are generally smaller properties, less than a half an acre in size, and are located mostly in residential neighborhoods,” said Lori Barnes, Development Services Director.

There is a non-refundable application fee of $100 per property to cover administrative and legal fees. Sealed envelopes labeled “Property Bid,” including the completed application, bid sheet and deposit, must be received by the Development Services Department located in City Hall at 4 N. Grove St. by November 2 at 2 p.m.

For more information please contact City of Eustis Development Services at (352) 483-5460.
