Blueberry season has officially arrived and picking organic blueberries with family and friends in Lake County is a great way to stock up on the healthy superfood while enjoying the great outdoors.
Organic berries typically cost more per pound, but do not contain any pesticides which have been linked to cancer, reproductive and developmental health hazards, and neurological problems.
“Blueberries are a good source of fiber and polyphenols, both of which have been shown to reduce the risk of chronic diseases caused by oxidative stress” said Victoria Gerace, Dietitian Intern at AdventHealth Waterman in Tavares. ”In addition, ½ cup of blueberries contains 1/3 of the recommended daily vitamin C.”
