Business is always competitive. Yet. this fall promises to turn the heat up just a little.
Mount Dora businesses will face off against each other at the Mount Dora Lawn Bowling Club’s Fall “Bowling Blast" tournament beginning September 30. Sixteen business teams will bowl for bragging rights, prizes and a trophy.
According to Tom Eppich, the event organizer, “We hope the public will come watch the action every Wednesday. Games start at 6:30 pm and will be over by 9 pm.”
The lawn bowling club was opened in in the 1920's after residents asked Charles Edgerton, owner of the Lakeside Inn and a member of the new parks commission, if the city would create a lawn bowling facility. The beautiful waterfront location, at the end of Donnelly Street, opened in 1928 with three rinks and 20 founding members.
Over the years the the club grew steadily, and now boasts nearly 300 members, 14 rinks and a large clubhouse to hold member parties and card games. In 1997 the City and lawn bowling club entered into a new management agreement for use of the city owned land which runs until June, 2096.
