For years north Lake County had been left high and dry when it came to local access to medical marijuana. On April 20, that changed.
In 2016, medical marijuana became a legal form of medical treatment. While dispensaries sprouted up across the state, north Lake County was void of them and licensed patients had to travel to Orange County or The Villages to stock up. Now they can order from a modern new dispensary in Eustis, conveniently located near the border of Mount Dora and Tavares.
Trulieve, a Tallahassee-based company, opened the approximately 5,000-square-foot Eustis facility and has seen a steady flow of patients seeking low-THC/ high-CBD products for non-euphoric care. The five-year-old company currently has 81 locations in Florida and is on track to reach 115 by the end of this year.
There are specific health conditions under which the consumption of medical marijuana is legal in Florida. To be lawfully protected, patients must receive a physician’s written recommendation, and then must register with Florida’s patient registry and receive an identification card. The card verifies the patient’s status as a legal, state-registered medical cannabis patient and exempts them from criminal and civil penalties associated with the use of their medicine. The cards are issued for a number of conditions including:
Chronic nonmalignant pain
HIV and AIDS
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
The Eustis dispensary features a convenient drive-through and offers a variety of edibles including cookies, fudge, fruit chews, and chocolate bars, as well as pre-rolled and loose cannabis and topicals. Trulieve’s staff works with local certified doctors to provide the appropriate products and the correct dosage for proper patient care.
According to Trulieve, the cannabis it cultivates for its own dispensaries is hand-grown in an environment specially designed to reduce unwanted chemicals and pests, which keeps the process as natural as possible.
The dispensary is located at 2901 S. Bay Street in Eustis and is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Delivery service is available.
