MT. DORA  CITY COUNCIL CLEARS WAY FOR CITY MANAGER'S RESIGNATION

2/3/2016

Last night's Mount Dora City Council meeting capped an end to the drama surrounding city manager Vince Pastue's announcement two weeks ago of his plan to resign.   The council voted 5-2 to accept the separation agreement Pastue submitted to them.  His last day will be March 4.

The city council will meet again on Thursday to discuss plans for an interim city manager while the professional search for a replacement city manager begins.   Funds will not need to be allocated for the new search since Pastue is still under a guarantee period by the search firm.

The vote was 4 to 3. Now we the citizens of Mt.Dora get to pay the costs of finding another city manager the quality of Mr. Pastue. We have become the laughing stock of Central Florida. How long will this go on? Why do they want to install lesser qualified people? What is their plan for this town? Are we going back to the time when the dog catcher was promoted to Chief of Police? Answers?

Hi Donna. Thank you for commenting. Just two points of clarification.
1. The vote was indeed 5-2.
2. As noted in the article, the city does not have to pay for a new search. It will be done at the expense of the search firm since the city manager was still under their guarantee period
3. It's not uncommon for there to be a transition of a city manager with an incoming new council. Cities are nimble and move on easily. Mount Dora will do the same.

Excellent response Trish. Very well clarified. I have faith Mt Dora will be fine.

Cahil, Rowlett, and Richard voted to retain. I believe that makes 3. Hope you are correct about the guarantee period, but there will be costs associated with the changes if they are only with staff already in place. Hidden costs are costs.
And last but not least, what city manager with any common sense will want to take over a position with a city in such flux? What does that leave us with?

Sorry that was Rolfson not Rowlett.

The vote was 5-2. Crail voted for it because he thought it was a fair agreement. BUT, he expressed hope that Mr. Pastue would stay. Only Rich and Rolfson cast a NO vote. This was in the cards before the election. God only knows what they will do next. A very inexperienced group.

You are right, just checked it again. Next they will get rid of the #2 and the attorney. Bring in under qualified replacements that they feel they can control.
Seat belts on, it's going to be a bumpy ride. Sad!

"Quality" is definitely in the eye of the beholder. Mt. Dora survived before Pastue came to "rescue" us. We will survive after. Change is not always a bad thing.
