TAKE THE SURVEY! MOUNT DORA PARKING GARAGE, TRAIN OR A BIKE TRAIL?

There is no doubt that folks don't always agree on the City of Mount Dora's priorities or how it should spend taxpayer money. As the City Council starts considering funding and priorities for the new budget, there are three big-ticket items that have garnered the most chatter from residents: a downtown parking garage, the return of the vintage train, and the bike trail along the train tracks.

How would you like to see Mount Dora spend its money? What are your priorities and how would you like them funded? That's exactly what Mount Dora Buzz is asking the City’s residents in a new survey. Give us your opinion and we'll share the results. Go to residents' survey here.

The bike trail along the train tracks is the right solution. It opens new opportunities for biking, running and walking as well as the opportunity to create events built around those activities. It’s a progressive idea that promotes Mt Dora’s brand identity as healthy, active, and fun!

I also would like to see a bike/walking trail between MD and Tavares. A golf cart lane would also be nice for people who want to go back and forth when there are events happening in both locations.

Definitely a walking/bike trail. I have been on some great Rails to Trails. We would love our own local trail!

Have to go with the bike trail. It would be awesome! However a parking garage is a close 2nd, as parking is really bad in downtown

I’ve seen very few people use the train although unique, more people would use the bike trail as we have no trail in Mount Dora. And keep extending and connecting it.

All the suggested enhancements would benefit
Mt Dora . However the parking needs help.

We are a destination and need to promote our special shops and city.

Mt Dora has it all.....a short ride on route 429 into the country.
We have special shopping, dinning, boating, hiking, birds and alegaters. Cruise the waters of Lake County, the Dead River and the Dora Canal in a jungle like setting awaits.
Get away from the parks and city hustle...
Relax and enjoy Mt Dora !!

Also, remember the post office is moving to next to Dairy Queen. A combo bike/golf cart/ walking trail will benefit lots of downtown residents. Right now, Mount Dora is not a pedestrian friendly place.

Please no more train. When we bought our home we were told the train tracks were being converted to part of the trail to connect Florida’s east and west coasts.

How long would the bike trail extend? To Tavares? East toward Sorrento? The latter would be the shadiest for good biking. Bike trail would be my vote. That would need parking space as well. The benefits that the city would receive from a "good bike trail" are too many to enumerate. Good luck on your decision.

The train track and it's right of way are wide enough not only to put in a bike trail but also angled parking spaces throughout downtown Mount Dora. This would provide hundreds of much needed parking spaces at a reasonable cost to the city and would also create an enjoyable leisure trail. For those who want to keep the train, drive to Tavares and catch it there!

It's possible to do most of these things in one deal....
Keep the train, as it attracts many people to Mount Dora...
The right of way is wide enough to run a bike train beside it....there's room for both to share, a win/win situation...
The train can provide a relief for parking, especially during events by shuttling people from remote parking sites..thus reducing traffic, etc....
It's not rocket science...but people have to be willing to share, rather than demand only one way...ie their way or no way...
It's probably also the cheapest way to get all those things...

Parking garage! Otherwise everything else just clogs up downtown. We need to face the music as every other small town has done and put up a parking garage since we are over 350 spot short of daily needs!!

I would like to see the City of Mount Dora provide netting to the Mount Dora Babe Ruth League. The NDBRL rents the field for $12,000.00 and its only a matter of time before a child or visitor will be seriously injured. I have discussed this issue with the City Commissioners when I volunteered as a baseball coach. I also would request the City of Mount Dora repair the bathrooms so Moms & Dads don’t have to take their children into the disgusting (smelly) Port/A/Potty .

A bike/walking trail along old rainl track from Mount Dora to Tavares would be a fantastic attraction. Just look what the bike trail did for Winter Garden. Also need to eventually connect to the Wekiva bike trail system.
