They say grandkids bring out the best in people. If that’s true, Mount Dora is in for a treat.
Debbie Belton, owner of the popular Matamo Designs store in downtown Mount Dora, is a relatively new, yet adoring grandparent. After relishing her new role, she has decided to expand her successful retail presence in Mount Dora by opening Littles by Matamo Designs, a children’s boutique catering to babies to ‘tweens. The new space will be next door to the existing store on 5th Avenue.
A few years ago Belton heard the term ‘Littles’ to reference babies and loved it. She has called her grandchildren, Body and Everly, ‘littles’ ever since and knew there could be no other name for her new children’s boutique.
Belton always featured a baby section in the original store, but having her own grandchildren spurred her to expand the space. The new store will sell a mix of children’s products ranging from light children's wear, plush toys, puzzles and books to decor, furniture, playsets and ‘tween’ gifts. The store’s brands include Jellycats plush toys, Wishbone Design rockers and scooters, Sugarboo Artwork, Bella Tunno babywear, Fred and Friends and more.
Belton, an interior decorator, relocated to Mount Dora from South Florida 15 years ago with her husband, Bobby. She opened Matamo Designs on 4th Avenue in 2008 in the current location of the Wow Factory. Three years later, she relocated the store to its larger location on the corner of 5th and Donnelly.
After renovations that include new floors, a furniture niche, and fresh paint, Littles by Matamo Design will be open on December 1 at 112 E. 5th Avenue in downtown Mount Dora. Its hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
